Managing Complexity in Foreground Detail: An Outcropping of Flowers

I have recently discovered the artist Jules Bastien-Lepage. He handles the foreground of landscapes brilliantly with loads of detail, lost and found edges, and layers of texture. This little flower study attempts to mimic his techniques.
