Imagining a Rainy Evening in Paris

I spent the weekend working on a commission for a friend.   She asked for a city scene with oranges and grays.  This easily the biggest canvas I’ve ever painted, here’s how I worked through it:

First, a 4×6 in inch sketch:

Then, on the large canvas, I applied an orange toned ground and sketched the structure of the piece in a mix of ultramarine and red:
